October 82 Concert

Posted by Phil on January 11, 2009

Just got home from an awesome concert at Memorial Baptist Church in Norwood. The band? The one and only October 82, consisting of my good buddy (and the world’s greatest photographer) David Morton, and his good buddy George Something-or-Other (don’t know George or his last name, obviously).

Anyways, I love these guys’ music and so will you as soon as you go check them out. Here’s a link to their myspace page where you can listen to their first cd. BY THE WAY, if you want to buy their cd, you can pick it up at the Albemarle Christian Bookstore for only $10!

Here’s a picture of Dave and his awesome wife Becki by the way. Go check out his site and tell him to start blogging again.

October 82

Posted by Phil on July 7, 2008

ATTENTION! Everybody head over to 91.9 online and vote for my man Dave’s band, October 82. Dave is the youth pastor at Memorial Baptist in Norwood, and is an all around awesome guy. If they get the most votes in this “My Church Band Rocks” contest their song will get played on the radio!

Click HERE to go and vote. This page will also let you hear the 3 contestants songs, but why bother with the other 2 when October 82 is available??? They are outside of the box and anything but the norm in Christian music. Click HERE to hear their full song and several others.

So stop what you’re doing and go VOTE!!! Cause this is more important and because I said so! They are only slightly in the lead and the voting ends WEDNESDAY morning at 10:00 AM!

P.S., there are a lot of links on this page, but Links are our friends.

(this video is a cool bio for the band if you’re interested)

Caedmon’s concert

Posted by Phil on March 2, 2008

Last night’s Caedmon’s Call concert was incredible! Hands down the BEST concert I have ever been to. It was 3 hours but I could have stayed for 3 days! We got there about 30 minutes before the show began and got seats on the 3rd row! The stage came out a foot or so from the front row, so we were right there.

Derek Webb opened the evening up with some of his solo stuff. Jenn and I were probably 10 or 15 ft directly in front of him. I could read the tattoos on his arm (if I could read Latin).

Then Caedmon’s came out and rocked it for a couple of hours! They did new stuff and plenty of old school songs. They did several from their first albums that got me hooked in middle school.

They are in my opinion the greatest band EVER because they are ALWAYS original, ALWAYS genuine, ALWAYS creative, ALWAYS purposeful, and ALWAYS deliver quality music. You will never get half an album from them with very little thought and effort put into it. Their music is always innovative, creative and addictive. I have always been impressed by their dedication to quality music.

If you’re unfamiliar with their music, it’s not too late for you! Your life can be salvaged! I can help you! Here’s a few pics from the show. They are from my camera and aren’t too great, but…

Even Jesus showed up, as you can see from this picture. He is a huge fan as well and part of the Guild with me…

Concert Tonight

Jenn and I are leaving in a couple of hours to see Caedmon’s Call in Hickory. They are my all time favorite band. The first Christian CD I ever owned was their self-titled album (I actually had it own cassette tape…). I’ve been following them ever since and have all of their albums.

I’ve only seen them in concert once so I am pumped. Derek Webb, an original member who split from the group to pursue a solo career, came back with Caedmon’s to help make their most recent album, Overdressed, so he is touring with them.

SO, not only is it Caedmon’s live in concert, this is ORIGINAL Caedmon’s! I can’t wait!!!

I picked up Steve Fee’s album We Shine at the bookstore this morning.
This CD is incredible! It knocked one of my molars right out of my head.
If you’ve never heard any Fee, go check them out!

Remedy

Posted by Phil on September 27, 2007

I picked up David Crowder* Band’s new album the other day call “Remedy.” Once again, they blew it out of the water! This CD is amazing and I highly recommend it. It has a great mix of everything that we have come to love about Crowder. Plus, “Glory of it All” is possibly my favorite song of all time. If you have a pulse, this album is for you!

Pandora

Posted by Phil on August 14, 2007

I found this incredible website today, thanks to Gary Lamb. The website is pandora.com, and is basically a free internet radio station, only YOU dictate what it plays.

You’ll have to check it out if you are a music person, but you basically type in an artist (ex: David Crowder Band) and the site will play you one of their’s and then songs from other bands who are similar in sound and style.

It doesn’t always throw up Christian artists, so you have to weed through some songs. It is very self-explanitory, so if you like music, I suggest checking it out!

It is a good way of finding new music and artists you aren’t familiar with.
