“The Day My Butt Went Psycho!”

Posted by Phil on January 5, 2009

043942469001lzzzzzzzThis is the actual title of an actual book I saw in a class while tutoring today. Funny huh? Oh the sermon illustrations, allegories and metaphors I could make right about now, but I’ll just let the book speak for itself.

I have to put this on my reading list.

The Worst of 2008

Posted by Phil on January 4, 2009

simon-cowell1

Here are the worst things from 2008, with the absolute WORST being:

  • MY BLOG. Yes, ask Keith Olberman and he’ll tell you how my blog is the worst blog of 2008. Then he’ll probably tell you George Bush is racist because he refused parmesan cheese from a waiter at Olive Garden in Texas 12 years ago (or something else psychotic like that…) (NOT an Olberman fan)
  • My beloved Tar Heels choking in our Final Four game against Kansas. Pitiful performance.
  • The sight of Roy Williams wearing that J-Hawks sticker as he watched Kansas win the championship game.
  • My septic tank screwing up all year long, and still having issues.
  • Finding out my shower had been secretly leaking and not telling me it was rotting the floor out in both bathrooms
  • You thought I was going to say the election didn’t you? But I didn’t.
  • The election. What?? You just reminded me…
  • The Boston Celtics winning the NBA finals. I hate Boston athletics.
  • Having a wreck on the way to the beach. My ONE vacation for the year, and we wrecked on the way down.
  • Someone got into my paypal account and started making tons of charges.

These are the worst of the worst from 2008. Like the best, there are plenty of more bad things to go around, but these top the cake.

What are YOUR worsts for the year? Leave me a comment.

The Best of 2008

Posted by Phil on January 3, 2009

thumbs-up

The new year is always a cool time to reflect on the previous year. I’ve thought some about the best and worst of 2008.

THE BEST:

  • My wife. We celebrated 3 years together and are on our way to 4 in June (logically). Still haven’t figured out why she is with me, but I’m definitely thankful. She gets top honors.
  • Going on staff with That Youth Thing. It’s been a crazy ride, but switching jobs was definitely the right move and I’m as confident as ever God wanted it this way. Working on 704 all year has been awesome!
  • Mississippi mission trip. Jenn and I went to Mississippi with North Albemarle’s students on mission in June. Awesome trip and cool chance to serve people still hurting after Katrina.
  • My grandfather surviving a severe stroke while on vacation at the beach. We are blessed he is still with us and able to talk and walk.
  • Riverdance. As a combined Valentine’s and Anniversary gift, I took Jennifer to Raleigh in the Spring to see Riverdance on their farewell tour. It was awesome to say the least. I wish I could move my legs that fast.
  • I dropped some weight this year. I’m not where I want to be, but am closer. I also have started running, after being inspired by the marathon man, Paul Jenkins. So, yeah, I’m not that consistent yet, but getting better.
  • I’ll be getting an iPhone in AUGUST!!!
  • We save up Christmas and b-day money and bought a Wii this Summer. These things are awesome! I’m beasting the new Star Wars game right now on it. Sweet.
  • God blessed me with several great jobs this year so we could pay the bills. I’m a substitute teacher, a tutor, and a lawn service associate (for lack of better terms). God also sent me a few other part-time jobs along the way. He has provided every step of the way exactly what we need.

There are tons of other awesome things that have happened this year, but these are the best (I can think of thus far).

So, what are YOUR bests from 2008? Leave me a comment.

(By the way, I want to be that guy in the picture when I grow up some day. Some day…)

HAPPY 2009!

Posted by Phil on January 1, 2009

Alright, so it’s that time of year. You know what time: resolution time.

But first, I wish you all an awesome new year. So awesome you can hardly stand it! Plus, so awesome by God’s standards that the world thinks you’re crazy for thinking things are awesome. You get the picture…

My Resolutions for 2009:

  1. BLOG! Yes, I sucked big time at blogging this year. After a great run in 2007 I fell into a horrid funk over the last year. I resolve to climb out of that funk! I want to get back to sharing my thoughts and ideas, life experiences, ups and downs, family, faith and ministry with you guys. Most of all though, I want to hear from YOU this year! I welcome any and all comments this year. Lay them on thick! Recommendations, criticisms, thoughts, etc. I look forward to hearing from you.
  2. Buy an iPhone. I’ve got the money stashed away from Christmas gifts and I’m ready to pull the trigger as soon as my contract is up with Alltel. If it wasn’t for a $200 contract cancellation penalty, I would have already pulled the trigger. See you in August iPhone. So long land-line too by the way.
  3. Start deleting messages off of our answering machine. It has hit the 30’s several times this year.

Yeah, so I realize I set the bar pretty low this year, but when December 1st rolls around and you start trying to drop the 25 pounds you resolved to, and start reading “Pride and Prejudice,” we’ll see who is laughing.  So what are your resolutions???  Unless you are smart enough NOT to make any.

Anyways, love you all, and I’m looking forward to an amazing 2009! See you right away right here at philbaucom.wordpress.com. (tell all your friends…)

Welcome Back

Posted by Phil on December 3, 2008

Where have you been? You’ve missed a lot here at philbaucom.wordpress.com. So so so much has happened over the past couple of months:

  • 704 is really starting to roll. Stay up to date @ the 704 blog
  • So far $35,000 has come in for 704!
  • We have a couple of awesome churches coming up that we are presenting at. North Albemarle Baptist this Sunday (7th) and Highland Baptist in January. If you’re interested in hearing the all out presentation feel free to stop by.
  • Jennifer and I got a new dog-Lucy. She came from the pound. See picture below.
  • I started back the couch to 5k running program. I finished week 3 day 1 tonight.
  • David Morton, world’s greatest photographer, did an awesome photo shoot for us. I’m going to throw them up on our flickr account soon. They are a must see because he took somebody as ugly as me and made the pictures look good! (It’s probably all because of my beautiful wife though)
  • Thanksgiving was AWESOME!!
  • I have the world’s most amazing wife!!! I gotta say, I’m crazy about her!

Back to Business

Posted by Phil on August 20, 2008

Tell all your friends!  Alert the media!  I am back!

Yes friends, after quite a hiatus for various reasons (vacation, family health problems, and a few financial “emergencies”) I am ready and able to get back to blogging, and with a vengeance I might add.

I am very happy to report that my grandfather, who had a stroke recently, is making great progress with his physical therapy.  He is blowing the average stroke patients out of the water! (not that it is a competition)  It is encouraging to watch him recover.

Actually I am spending the night with him at the hospital (Stanly Regional) tonight and there is some good ol free internet!  One of life’s great joys!  We have also been extremely pleased with the nursing staff in the rehab center.  They are amazing!  As long as things continue to go well, he should make it home next Thursday.  Please keep praying!

I have lots of blogging to catch up on, so stay tuned!  For now, I leave you with the biggest praying mantis I have ever seen.  He bit my face off, but I got it back.

Back Home

Posted by Phil on July 29, 2008

We got back from vacation Saturday, but I am just now getting around to blogging. I would have blogged more at the beach but the internet connection available was dumber than a box of hair.

(If you would like to see more pictures Jennifer put like 8 thousand up over at her blog)

Lots of different things to blog about coming up though this week and next, so stick with me.

This morning, some weird guy came to the door and said:
“Is you mom or dad home?”

How do you think I replied? Did I…
A-dropkick him in the throat
B-with a lisp and a Fred voice, tell him I’m not allowed to talk to strangers
C-with a Chuck Norris voice, say “This is my house, fool.”

If you chose (C) you are correct, minus the fool part. He was selling educational material for grades Pre-K through High school. Can anyone say ambiguity? Strange. By the way, the kid looked younger than me. You think he would have been able to sense the adulthood all over me.

1-Why is this giraffe headless?

2-Why is he/she strapped to a palm tree?

Talk amongst yourselves…
