NFL Draft

Posted by Phil on April 26, 2008

Well the NFL Draft officially begins at 3:00 PM today. This is one of my favorite days of the year, so try not to bother me if at all possible. I’ll be watching all of draft day 1 until its over around 8:00 PM tonight.

Here’s to another great draft by the Panthers and another Super Bowl push! GO PANTHERS!!!

Oh, and by the way, since we’re talking sports, UNC Tarheels Ty Lawson and Wayne Ellington have declared for the NBA draft. I sadly predicted that would happen. They haven’t hired agents so that means they COULD return to college basketball next year (but probably won’t). More importantly though, Tyler Hansbrough will be returning for his senior season (a move I happily predicted).

In case you forgot who my boy Tyler Hansbrough, NCAA player of the year was, click HERE.

Stupidest thing ever

Posted by Phil on April 6, 2008

Last night I watched the stupidest thing I have ever seen in my life: Kansas absolutely destroying UNC in the Final Four game. This game was an absolute waste of my time. I would have been better served watching a really bad Ben Affleck movie (pretty much any of them) or women’s professional bowling.

The game was literally over in the first 10 minutes. Not figuratively, not metaphorically, nor any other frilly descriptive words. It was literally over in the first 10. The last 30 minutes didn’t even need to be played. If you didn’t watch it, good for you. You saved yourself some brain cells. To recap: a very good Kansas team came out running and trampled a slow, dumb, erratic, careless UNC squad which had secretly been replaced with my wife’s first grade class.

And now on to the NFL DRAFT! Something to look forward to. Only 20 days, 2 hours and 52 minutes away.

Sweet 16…again…

Posted by Phil on March 26, 2008

2329908512_666118b905_o.jpgAs always (unlike peon teams like NIT-prone N.C. State) UNC has made it to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament. I haven’t blogged about the tourney thus far, but all you need to know is the Heels are playing like champs. I know they’ve played a 16 and a 9 seed, but that is the luxury of the # 1 overall seed. Don’t complain because we’re not playing terribly tough teams. Make fun if we were barely getting by weak teams (i.e. the UCLA Bruins…underrated chumps…)

A couple side notes about the tournament:

***Got this stinkin awesome picture from Chris’ blog. Notice the look of despair on the faces of those sad Duke fans.

Also, in reference to the Blogging Nobleman’s most recent post, Tyler Hansbrough:

  • Nerdy Celebratory Dancer-Yes
  • Awesome-YES
  • Jersey to be hung from the rafters in the Dean Dome with the likes of Jordan, Worthy and Ford-YES
  • Man Crush?-Jennifer says that comment disturbed her (not sure I would deny it if only he would stay his senior year…)

The Holy Land

Posted by Phil on March 5, 2008

Made my first pilgrimage to the Holy Land (The Dean Smith Center). A huge thanks to Matt Miller for hooking me up with a ticket to my first ever Tarheel basketball game! It was incredible! Also thanks to Darnell for his master driving skills and Torrey for constantly shouting crude remarks at the refs…

As soon as we walked in I started looking for the championship banners, and where else but DIRECTLY OVER MY HEAD! That’s right, all 5 of them. 24, 57, 82, 93, and 2005! It’s like we were sitting inside of the Ark of the Covenant.

Paul, the Blogging Czar sent me a picture message of himself crying because he was A.) so sad he wasn’t there and B.) in awe of what a championship banner actually looks like. They don’t hang many banners over at N.C. State.

It was senior night; the last home game of the season. They blew Florida State out of the water! It was an awesome game to watch. I have to go sub now at NSHS so goodbye for now. I’ll throw up some more pictures later but I leave you with the jewels on the holy ephod of awesomeness…

Sad Day in Green Bay

Posted by Phil on March 4, 2008

favresicover.jpgAfter 17 seasons in the NFL, Packers legend Brett Favre has retired. He has retired as one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play the game and he will be a first ballot Hall of Famer for sure.

So from everybody here at philbaucom.wordpress.com (me…) we salute you Brett. Here’s to a brilliant career, lots of class (except when deciding whether or not to retire) and some fantastic Wrangler jeans commercials.

Make all the comparisons you want about Favre and Tony Romo, but there will NEVER be another Brett Favre. Salute!

A glimpse at his all time numbers (all are NFL records by the way):

  • Wins: 160
  • Completions: 5,377
  • Pass Attempts: 8,758
  • Pass Yards: 61, 655
  • Passing Touchdowns: 442
  • 253 CONSECUTIVE starts at QB
(this record is INSANE in case you hadn’t noticed…)
